Flood Plain Administration

These regulations define the requirements and procedures for floodplain development within the City of Red Lodge.

All work within the Special Flood Hazard Area is required to comply with the City's Floodplain Ordinance (see below) and submit a Joint Application to the Floodplain Administrator. Floodplain Administrators assist Montana Department of Natural Resources (DNCRC) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) with compliance to local, state and federal regulations.

Resources for Development in the Floodplain

  • Montana DNRC provides education materials, the Joint Applicant and instructions sheet, infographics and more. 
  • FEMA's Map Services Center allows you to enter an address and check if your property or project site is in the Special Flood Hazard Area.
  • Carbon County Conservation District administers 310 permits.
  • Army Corps of Engineers administers  Section 404 and Section 10 permits.
  • Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks administers SPA 124 Permits.
  • DEQ administers 401 Water Quality Certification and 318 Authorization

All permits or statements of no permit required need to be filed with a Joint Application to the Floodplain Administrator for final review and approval before work can begin.
