The City of Red Lodge operates on a Charter Form of Government, approved by the voters and effective as of July 1, 2003.
The governing body consists of 6 law-making council members which make up the legislative body.
The council members come from 3 wards of roughly the same number of people, 2 members from each ward. All members serve 2-year terms. Each year one member from each ward is elected. Though council members are elected by wards they all work for and try to represent the needs of the entire city.
